active directory site design.Doing an AD Design project.I've got 4 geographic locations.  Hub and spoke configuration.  All locations are connected via 100Mbps link except one is connected via 1Gbps link.

Main site - 6000 users (2500 logon daily)
Site 1 (over 1Gbps) - 500 users (100 logon daily)
Site 2 (over 100Mbps) -  350 users (70 logon daily)
Site 3 (over 100Mbps) -  150 user (30 logon daily)

- There will be quite heavy GPO usage in this environment.
- Exchange (2007) will be centralized at main site.
- Site design will be a single forest, with 2 domains (1 of which will be a placeholder parent domain).

I've considered using 1 site for the AD design.  Peers have stressed using a site for each location (4 sites).  Comments?

I, too, would suggest a DC at each location (probably 2 at the main site) and a site for each geographic location. I can see how you'd be less concerned with network traffic considering you're "highly connected" at 100MB, however 100MB isn't unlimited and unless you plan to use DFS-R instead of FRS, the group policy traffic alone will be tying up your bandwidth.

That said, I'd be pretty sure that a single site model "would" work perfectly fine over 100MB connections. The recommendation for a DC at each site is a pretty easy one to make. If you don't do this, and your network link goes down, you're out of the water.

My primary reason for proposing multiple sites is for future scalability.
What if they decide to move forward with Configuration Manager 2007 in a few months. Proper site configuration would be required to support software distribution. AD replication traffic would be a drop in the bucket compared to pulling MBs or GBs over BITS. Also, proper site configuration would be necessary for any DFS-R outside of SYSVOL and NETLOGON if you wanted to get into distributed file servers.You saw the article comes from ActiveDirectorySEO http://gnaw0725.blogbus.com/c1404552/
